RIP Judy Turnbull

It is with great sadness to report the passing of Judy Turnbull this past week.

Judy has been a long-time member of WHHA throughout the years and could be seen at the races with her father (Roy Kline) and most recently, helping her son Adam become a top ten driver and helped take Erica's Blossom to WHHA Runner-Up Pacer of the Year in 2011.

Friends may visit with the family from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday April 19, 2013, at TOYNTON'S SHARON FUNERAL HOME at 210 Baldwin St. in Sharon. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials to the Sharon American Legion Auxiliary.

It's that time of year again!   I am currently putting together the 2013 In Training Reports.

These will be printed in the Wisconsin Harness News and Mid-America Standardbred News.

More importantly, they will be distributed to all the race secretary / supt. of speed's in the state.  This may help them write classes for their race meets this year.

Please provide the most information you can:

Horse's Name, Sire, Dam, Age, Sex, Gait, Owner, etc.

DEADLINE:  FEBRUARY 15th

I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone that participated in making this year's Annual Meeting and Banquet a roaring success!  A special thank you to USTA Executive VP Mike Tanner for attending!

We had a great Auction and took in over $5,900!   A big thank you to all who donated and purchased items.  The money will go a long ways to helping fund our race meets this summer.

It’s that time of year again! Our annual meeting and banquet is fast approaching! I hope you’re able to come share in the fun!!

This year we kick off with an informational demonstration of interactive Internet websites relating to harness racing. The WHHA Meeting and USTA District 4B meeting is always informative and serves as chance for you to voice your opinion and help guide the direction of the 2013 racing season.

I am very excited to welcome USTA Executive VP Mike Tanner to our weekend of fun! Let’s all turn out in full force and show him what Cheeseheads have to offer!

We have numerous awards to give out, and I hope you’re able to come celebrate them all – especially our “Big 3”: James Laird Memorial Award For Excellence (Party Hangover); Horseperson of the Year (Brian McMahon) and Wisconsin Harness Racing Hall of Fame (Susan Schroeder & Dr. JP West).

Membership and Banquet form is attached. Please remember that we have a NEW & IMPROVED CATERING SERVICE this year! The downfall, is that we will not have the flexibility we always have had when giving our numbers … please, please get your reservations in by January 15^th so we can make sure there is enough food for everyone … I can’t stress this enough.

RIP Carol Yohn

It is with great sorrow that I must report the passing of Carol Yohn on Friday, December 21st.  Carol was a long time WHHA member, friend, horsewoman, and harness racing fan.  Her passion was unmatched during her time here and she will be deeply missed.  Our hearts go out to Bob, Becca, Rachel and the rest of their family during this trying time.

Services will be held in Columbus, Wisconsin.  A visitation will take place at the Jensen Funeral Home (248 South Ludington Street, Columbus, WI   53925; 920-623-5850) from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 27th.  There will also be a viewing at 10:00 am on Friday, December 28th with funeral to follow at 11:00 am at the Fall River United Methodist Church (138 South Street Fall River, WI 53932; (920) 484-3924).  Lunch will follow at the church.

May our friend rest in peace.

RIP Shirley Zellner

It’s never easy writing these emails, but I must convey that we lost one of our greatest supporters this morning, Shirley Zellner.  

Shirley has been a member and fan for many years and could be seen in the grandstand, as a railbird, and in the barn working with the Davis Stable.

It is my understanding that at this time, no services will be held per her request, but a celebration of life is currently being planned. 

Our condolences to the Zellner family and especially to Rick & Deb Davis who have been Shirley’s extended family for many years.

ELKHORN RACES RESCHEDULED!!!!

Due to the heat index anticipated for JULY 6th, the WHHA has postponed the races. Health and safety of the horses, particpants and spectators first!
We know it's short notice, but it's the only date we can make work without conflicting with our other currently scheduled meets.
Sunday, July 8th
Post Time: 12:00 Noon
Beverages will be available, but at this point no food wagon has been secured.
8 races -- Original race card will be raced with the exception of those horses who have other racing conflicts. Those horses can be withdrawn with no penalty per USTA Rule 15, section G.
