Walworth County Fair

The Walworth County Fair in Elkhorn has long been Wisconsin’s flagship fair.  With the number of horses tailing off, it has been harder and harder to keep the box filled and provide the fair with a return on their investment.   Since the budget was cut, the Wisconsin Harness Horse Association was taxed with finding new revenue to keep the fair going.  Fortunately, two big sponsors came through for the racing program this.   USTA Phil Langley and the Langley family made a sizeable donation on behalf of his late parents, Pete & Jessie Langley.   Phil has always had a soft spot for the Elkhorn Fair and has supported it for many years now.

Also making a sizeable donation was Alagna Racing through the sponsorship of the Captaintreacherous FFA Pace.   The race drew 9 entries which was a required split at the fair, so two divisions went postward for the cash.  The first division saw David Samuelson come from northern Illinois with his horse Part Time to win in 2:02.2.  The second division was won by the Brian McMahon owned/trained Spirit In The Sky.  Gabe Wand piloted Sky in the fastest race of the day, a snappy 2:01.3.

Despite being a hot and humid September day, the crowd turned out to support the racing.   A big thank you to all who helped make this year’s fair a raging success!
